I just upgraded my phone to a new Samsung Omnia.
The specification is very impressive with rival Apple iPhone.
It's touch screen and features are pretty impressive.
Got it at a good price from Singtel Hello shop for about $368. The offer ended yesterday.

I crave for both phones too. Do read a full review of the battle between HTC's Touch Diamond and Omnia in today's ST Digital Life.

Here is the view of Omnia
What I like :
- Its light, responsive, sleek and slim.
- it has built-in 16 GB storage, upgradable to higher with micro SD.
- It has phone to TV output, Radio, GPS, MMS, flash doubles as torch light, etc.
- It plays Divx (download from www.divx.com), wmv, avi, etc.
- I like the dangling stylus which comes with the phone.
- WM6 pro running with Opera browser. Fantastic features of Opera. I love it.
- I am able to backup my MMS, SMS, pics, videos etc. with it's companion software.
What I don't like
- it don't have too many apps written for it yet as old s/w can't run well in the new 3.2" screen.
- the package did not include the phone to TV cable & no carrying case. (that's why it was cheaper than Starhub's phone price)
Why I chose Omnia
I was hesitant about getting iPhone 3G because it ran only Quicktime and MP4 video and i am tied to Apple. I have been a user of Window mobile, thus was also worried about switching to iPhone. With Omnia, the operating system and functionally is familiar to me and I easily synced with my PC with all my data from my Outlook copied over.
GSS Bargain
I bought my phone during the Singtel promo last week for $468 for renewing with a 2 yr plan and being an existing Singtel user I got another $100 off. Therefore the phone cost me only $368, which to me, it was a fantastic bargain. Other full featured phones like HTC would cost about $768 or higher. I believe now the price of Omnia has gone back to asbout $768.

Overall, I would give Omnia a 8.5 out of 10.

I always have a habit of charging the phone when I'm home so I don't actually test the battery life. My best guess is that the phone will last 2 days on light usage and 1.5 days for heavy usage.

for text input, omnia offers several options to choose from including the crappy virtual keyboard from wm6. but samsung have also include another virtual keyboard that is similar to iphone, all thanks to the large display.
Battery life really depends on what application are switched on during use. am a heavy data user, msn n active sync on most of the time and battery life could not last a full day.

I just bought a HTC Diamond, perhaps, we can make a comparison during BW Anni Party. I was hesitant between these 2 phones but chose HTC Diamond instead. I have not regretted yet as I have no chance to try on Samsung Omnia. Perhaps, will regret after comparing yours.

hmmm..... gachi actually showed me the phone during the BW anniversary chalet, but i was playing mahjong then, so no chance to meddle around with the phone.
but i must say, it looks unusually slick and chic. about 3/4 the surface area of the iPhone, but does not gives you the feeling of shortchanged. and Gachi showed me the "Smile Detection" tool of the camera. which means, you put the camera in that mode, aim and wait. once the target smile, the phone will automatically take the photo. haha THAT impressed me.
the finishing of the phone looks solid too. when you hold it in your hands, it doesn't feels "fragile" like some phone do. overall, the phone looks kindda impressive. well. at least, i'm impressed.

To Samsung Omnia users in this forum - like to check with you, how long does your phone battery last? Mine always require me to charge due to low batt by the end of the day, and I am not even a heavy user.
Is there any way that I can "stretch" my battery when I am not a heavy user? Any features that I need to activate/deactivate?

Here are a few ways you can have a longer battery life.
1. Check and make sure that you charged using the power supply and not the USB.
2. Check and make sure your WIFI, Bluetooth are not ON when you don't use it.
3. End task of background software if you have no use for them, especially, music player.
4. Charge your battery once you are home.

I just updated my firmware for Omnia, it is more stable and even come with a great software called Smart Reader that translate a capture picture into text. The accuracy of the recognition software ranged from 85-95%, it also depends on the lighting and how you capture the picture.

I went to the telco shop the other day to look at the much anticipated Inno8 phone and was quite disappointed with the dull 'brickish' look of the black phone. The Omnia- silver edition- really caught my eye and placing both phones side by side, the Omnia is really the handsomer phone (Omnia also has a bigger screen). But the only downside is that Omnia doesnt have a 3.5mm headphone jack for music listening and that is a big minus point for me. Mabye I'll wait for the silver Inno8 to debut.

Inno8 is not a PDA phone. It's a Symbian phone. So it is different from Omnia.

Before the launch of iphone, I aimed at Samsung Omnia and HTC. The reports seem favours Samsung.
Samsung using Window operation mode. It reminds me of works.So i didnt get it even the offre price is 389 before I trade it my phone and even they have superb delivery service.

I've seen a lot of people asking how they can boost their volume of their headsets or when watching a movie through the loud speaker (its very low). Even ringtones are effected by this. So I thought I better finally register and post my findings for other I900 owners.
Its quite simple and does not require a hard rest.
In the phone keypad type: *#0002*28346#
You will then have a screen pop up called audio control util.
How to change the loudspeaker volume for ringtones, movies, mp3s etc
Click menu, normal then handset (the first one, Phones headset/loudspeaker) Here you can change:
Speaker volume: SPK(02) -db is less volume, I have set this to -1.5db (level)
Digital-to-analog: DAC(0C) This effects the overall volume of Mp3s, movies etc -both headset and loud speaker. I have set this to 0db.
Radio Volume: RVOL
How to change the headset / earphones volume.
Click menu, normal then headset (the second one, Headphones) Here you can change:
Headphones volume: HP(02) -db is less volume +db is more volume, I have set this to 0db (level)
Digital-to-analog: DAC(0C) This effects the overall volume of Mp3s, movies etc. I have set this to 0db.

Lately i’ve no time to post any news about Omnia..Actually i have nothing to post and pretty busy with my new job..
But if u talk about Omnia firmware then it will be never ending story. As u all know, there are SO MANY FIRMWARE VERSION had officialy/non officially released by Samsung. Since the launched on July in Singapore then follow with other countries, i can say at least more than 10 version had been released. From G1, G3, G4, G5, H1, H3, I1, I2, I3, bla…bla…bla….The weird thing is if u go to the website the latest one is still H3 version, which is known as a BATTERY KILLER..I strongly advise do not upgrade ur Omnia to this version. If not u will regret..haha…
SO back to the topic, i will use this post to update if there is any new firmware released from Samsung.
Please bear in my mind, this is not consider as an official firmware from Samsung. As i know they may purposely leaked the firmware to the users. To let the user to test first and become their victim..Haha..Don’t worry it should be ok..Although it’s not official but i believe every new firmware should fixed some bugs based on the previous firmware..

Those who are having battery problem on H3 firmware, is highly recommended to upgrade to i900DXHI1 Firmware. Mine can last almost 3 days with normal usage..

Settings The preview of Theme does not display when selecting the image bigger than 3M.
WIFI If ‘Browser Connection’ set not to ‘internet’,
Browser try to connect via GPRS even if WIFI connection is established
RIL Occurrence Process : Insert Airtel SIM card and power ON the handset.

TV_OUT Repro Steps:
1. Connect the TV Cable
2. Receive a phone call
3. Start -> Program -> execute any program
3. Disconnect the TV Cable
Problem
When TV cable is connected, a warning window pops up.
Without closing that popup, execute any program.
Unplug the TV cable, and touch screen will act abnormally.
WLAN 1. We changed to be passed even if mc address is wrong..
2. We fixed data abort problem that it occurs when grandprix is booting.
3. We fixed power save mode setting when WiFi driver is receiving data..
4. We fixed “unbinding problem” when phone chnges IP setting way from DHCP to Static IP Setting. repeatedly.
5.We added firmware version and release version to serial message.
6. We upgraded firmware p31 to p32.
7. We fixed data abort problem to not working of wlan that it occurs with wrong chip id.
8. We improved power save mode setting when WiFi driver is receiving data.
Widget Occurrence Process : Create a contact with long name and assign Caller image to it. Recive a call. Disconnct the call from MO side.
Occurrence Status : Ringtone, ringing is stuck. Dump file created on its own. And phone is getting restarted again and again.

Settings The preview of Theme does not display when selecting the image bigger than 3M.
WIFI If ‘Browser Connection’ set not to ‘internet’,
Browser try to connect via GPRS even if WIFI connection is established
RIL Occurrence Process : Insert Airtel SIM card and power ON the handset.
Expected Result : It is displaying ” Airtel ” . It should be displayed as “AirTel ” [ HYPERLINK "java script:getUserInfo('M061117065109C104045','E')" VIKRAM D PANCHAL - 2008.08.08]
TV_OUT Repro Steps:
1. Connect the TV Cable
2. Receive a phone call
3. Start -> Program -> execute any program
3. Disconnect the TV Cable
Problem
When TV cable is connected, a warning window pops up.
Without closing that popup, execute any program.
Unplug the TV cable, and touch screen will act abnormally.
WLAN 1. We changed to be passed even if mc address is wrong..
2. We fixed data abort problem that it occurs when grandprix is booting.
3. We fixed power save mode setting when WiFi driver is receiving data..
4. We fixed “unbinding problem” when phone chnges IP setting way from DHCP to Static IP Setting. repeatedly.
5.We added firmware version and release version to serial message.
6. We upgraded firmware p31 to p32.
7. We fixed data abort problem to not working of wlan that it occurs with wrong chip id.
8. We improved power save mode setting when WiFi driver is receiving data.
Widget Occurrence Process : Create a contact with long name and assign Caller image to it. Recive a call. Disconnct the call from MO side.
Occurrence Status : Ringtone, ringing is stuck. Dump file created on its own. And phone is getting restarted again and again.
Expected Result : Dump fiel with R&D
Widget Occurrence Status : Select samsung widget as the theme and try to do first log in on Windows live messenger. The stage number ‘3′ gives error that samsung widget does not support wondows messenger
Expected Result : Should work normally, users are not concerned about themes selected while using phone applications

I dont use any skin because so far i have tested HTC Diamond and Windows7 skins. But its not working on my Omnia.

Another iphone clone software.. Windows mobile can be anything that u want..Hehe.. So far this is the best Iphone home screen for windows mobile. It has a lot of customization that u can choose. How about Winterface? Hmm..i dunno..because i got a problem when use winterface. My Omnia screen will blank and cannot turn on.

I bought the Samsung Omnia yesterday at HelloShop.
I have to pay S$368.00 (after S$100.00 trade in for my phone) for an 8G phone instead of a 16G which GM has bought in July'08....sigh
They mentioned that the promotion is for 8G, if I want to have th 16G, I have to pay S$648.00 (before S$100.00 discount)
Nonetheless, this is one HANDSOME touch screen phone....I just love it..

i completly love my omnia but i olny have one prob the low bwttery beep will go of even when i have it on silent.it can be a nuisence during class and i need help fixing it im afraid of threads becuse i dont want to screw up my phone i love it way to much any ideas?
