Appeal For Your Real Life Stories...

If you are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender & living in Singapore……

* Have you had difficulties with your family because of that?

* Or did you have problems with discrimination or persecution in school, at work or in your religious community?

* Do you have any personal experience of mental illness or addiction issues?

* Or perhaps you’ve even attended reparative therapy?

* Maybe you’ve had suicidal thoughts, or attempted to kill yourself before, or perhaps lost someone you know to suicide?

If you’ve answered YES to one or a few of the above, then please get in touch.

I'm a social worker by profession, & putting together a collection of real life stories of people who have gone through difficult times and would like to share them with others. The idea is to promote awareness and understanding of the growing pains of being GLBT in Singapore.

You don’t have to be OUT, and you have the option to remain anonymous when your story is published.

If you have any questions, or would like to find out more, please get in touch for a no obligations chat & we can take it from there.

Also, I would be very grateful if you could pass on this appeal to anyone else you think might be able to help.

Many thanks & take care,

Leow Yangfa

I do have a few members to introduce to you: you can Private Message (PM) for more info. As to whether they will meet you, that will have to depend on them.

Dear gachi_muchi

Thanks so much for your recommendations.

I'll wait for a while to see if they would prefer to voluntarily contact me to share their stories, before I approach them directly. Perhaps they may wish some time to think about it first?

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who responded to my earlier appeal for people to share their real-life stories. Very unexpectedly & most encouragingly, many others have also come forward to volunteer their skills & services in putting together this book.

So far, several gay & bisexual men who have contacted me have shared their personal stories about:

* Surviving their own suicide attempts

* Living with depression

* Getting bullied & harrassed in school & NS

* Losing loved ones to death & suicide

* Facing discrimination at church

* Being diagnosed HIV+

* Surviving a physically abusive relationship

* Facing racial discrimination within the gay community

I’m still on the look out for more real-life stories. Do you have one to share?

Have you faced any of the above challenges in life? Or perhaps a different one, for example having to go through reparative therapy, losing a loved one through AIDS, or caring for someone with a mental illness? Or perhaps you’ve experienced a traumatic event that you feel ready to talk about?

Do get in touch directly, especially if you identify as a queer/ bisexual/ lesbian woman or transgender person. Gay & bisexual men are still welcome too!
