Leslie Cheung & Anita Mui were among the best Cantonese singers in the 80s.
It is very sad that both have died in 2003 and a great loss to the music industry.
Enjoy the following nostalgia MVs:

One of my favourite Catonese series songs is 心債 performed by 梅艷芳 (Anita Mui).
Its the theme song from <香城浪子> (Soldier Of Fortune).

Song series theme songs has been sung by different singers and the effect is also different.
For example the theme song from TVB series (Lovers Destiny) is orginally sung by 仙杜拉 (Sandra Lang). This song has also been performed by 甄妮 (Jenny Tseng) and 梅艷芳(Anita Mui).

All 3 singers are veteran Canto singers and each has their own unique style, which one do you prefer ?

This song recalls my oldie days. I download the MP3 song from baidu immediately. Still playing the song repetitively till now, till I go to bed.

Anyway if you really need to, firebox or google chrome have extensions that will enable you to extract the audio files from youtube.

One of my favorites.

I believe this was from the late '80s:

忘尽心中情               Forget the Love in My Heart

(Theme song for tv series)

The series is about a youth who is denied his love and who abandons himself to a life of a vagrant, yet depicting his intriguing encounters with bad characters and how he deals with them.

The sound quality seems better for this:

忘      尽  心   中   情                       Forgetting all about the love in my heart

Morng dzon sam dzong tsing

Abandoning all foolish infatuations

Wai ha ngori yu tsi

I let my laughter drive away my past sorrows

Yam siu sing song dzau gau sau

让      美  酒  洗  清  前 事               tasting good wine to drain away my past.

Yoeong meidzau sai tsing tsin si

The four seas are my home

Sei hori ga hoeong si

Exactly where, I can’t be bothered to know

Hor dei ngor laan dzi

Letting my heart wander wherever it may go

Son yi tsoi tsűn sam dzi yű

Letting my feet do the walking to meet anybody I may meet

Yam goeok dzau tsaek koi tsoi yű

It’s easy to act frivolously when you are drunk

Naanfan dzoi sing wun sai dzau yongyi

Only Heaven knows whether it is for good or bad

Tsi dzong singfu dziyau tin dzi

Letting my hair disheveled, I walk alone

Peisaan taufaat dokdzi hang

Whether it is loss or gain, it is only my business.

Daksat wai ngor si

The various dreams of yesterday

Dzork tin dzongdzong mong

难    望   再  有  诗                               cannot be fulfilled anymore.

Nanmorng dzori yau si

Forever separated from my love

Dzau yű ta winggau bitlei

未  去   想   那 非 和 是                        not thinking about who is right, who is wrong.

Meihoi soeong na fei wor si

未  记 起  从  前   名 字                        not even remembering my own name.

No other HK female singers can be compared to her. They can either sing or act or dance or host, but Anita can do ALL. And her song genre ranges from pop to opera, which till now HK has not found anyone as talented.

Just to watch tons of Cantonese stuff with my Cantonese nanny from HKG when I was a kid.
Just love the way she swears and bitches in Cantonese !!!
Her unforgettable bitch line when she saw two effeminate guys once, she said ( in direct translation )
"See those two bloody jinx face, if not flower , then must be vegetable !! "
For those who can understand Cantonese, you know how bitchy that sounds directly

This song is for that old bitch who took care of me for 8 years, died 9 years ago in her sleep at the age of 82, who smoked two packets a day, drank 4 glass of hard liquor everyday, taught me mahjong and gave me my first cigarette at 6.
Miss you.

This has to be my all time favourite!!!! I just rewatched the entire series haha

Found 1985 Hong Kong Year End Top Hits Awards.

The opening was a medley. It's a trip down memory lane. All the singers like Leslie, Anita, Alan Tam, George Lam and Sam Hui in their heydays. There's even Jacky Cheung before he was 歌神.

Hi all,

I've just returned from HK and listened to some classic song there but couldnt figure out its name. The only thing i can remember is the video, where a guy with a black bird or something like that sang on stage. As long as I remember the guy wore bright (white) clothes. Seemed to be very popular among the KTV singers there. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

The song was sung by a guy. Unfortunately I can only speak Mandarin, thats why I can't remember any of the lyrics. Seemed to be a pretty blue and emotional song.
