Any love for KT Tunstall?

The debut album of KT Tunstall (of Scottish origin, but her music is targeted at the Brit market) was such a great record... I'm still wondering why she abandoned her distinctive folksy sound for a more generic indie-rock posturing in her subsequent albums. Still, Eye to the Telescope is almost single-handedly responsible for paving the way for those folk ladies with pop sensibilities like Ingrid Michaelson and Corrine Bailey Rae.

Her percussion-heavy works (i.e. Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, Suddenly I See) are obviously her best, but I was Youtubing some of her early singles and realized just how heartfelt and touching Other Side of the World is. The way she went from a calm introspective "you're close enough to see that..." to the heartbreaking falsetto of "you're the other side of the world to me" is goosebumps-worthy.

And the underrated Ingrid Michaelson, for that matter:

“Do not take life too seriously. You’ll never get out of it alive.” — Elbert Hubbard

Nice one glowingember!

In the early 90s, a different Adam Ant made a comeback too,

it was a tamer him, decked in suit and minus the Punk Rock persona!

Stay Another Day - East 17 (#1 in 1994)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BXR5dgRmO0

Stay Another Day was the third single from East 17's second album Steam.

It was the band's first ballad, written by the band's lead songwriter Tony Mortimer,

and said to be about his brother Ollie who committed suicide.

Tony Mortimer won an Ivor Novello songwriting award for this song,

and the single was also nominated for 'Best Single' at the Brit Awards in 1995.

The Christmas bells towards the end of the song gave the song a Christmassy feel,

where it remained #1 for 5 weeks, thus becoming the 1994 Christmas number-one!

Only You from the days Alison Moyet is in Yazoo.

The same song from the Flying Pickets!

The original version by Yazoo came out in 1982 and the Flying Pickets' acapella version came out during Christmas 1983. Both are equally good, IMHO.

Yup. Both versions are good. :)

Only You - The Flying Pickets (#1 in 1983)

This version spent five weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart,

it's also the Christmas #1 in 1983 & the first acappella chart-topper in the UK!

December Song (I Dreamed of Christmas) - George Michael (#14 in 2009)

This track was first available for free on George Michael's official website between December 25-26, 2008.

When officially released in December 2009, physical copies of the song were sold out in one day,

forcing George Michael's record label to print new copies,

with many fans commenting on forums of their annoyance at not being able to buy a physical copy of the single,

possibly also giving the song a lower chart position than its true potential.

Relax - Frankie Goes to Hollywood

This highly controversial & sexually explicit music video was shot in a gay nightclub, banned by both the BBC and MTV.

Two Tribes - Frankie Goes to Hollywood

The equally controversial video depicted a wrestling match between then-President Ronald Reagan and then-Soviet leader Konstantin Chernenko which ultimately degenerating into complete global destruction.

British popular music is recently known for their invasion of blue-eyed soul crooners like Amy Winehouse (RIP), Adele, and Duffy.
